Job Summary:

Plans, develops and administers the Company’s freight transportation programs. Coordinates a team of transportation, traffic and customs specialists.  Acts as a leader in facilitating and initiating material transportation activities and processes, in accordance with the company's objectives, principles, mission and processes.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the transportation of goods to and from (loading, LTL, air freight) on behalf of the Company in time and quantity necessary to ensure the operations of the plant.
  • Evaluate rates and routes and recommends programs to save money and improve performance.
  • Responsible for filling and managing losses, damages, and shortage claims with carriers when required.
  • Responsible for maintaining/developing appropriate indicators related to punctuality, transportation costs, quality, and health and safety standards and implementing actions to achieve them.
  • Develops short- and long-term traffic objectives, including planning a strategy to achieve standards and measure progress.  The latter must take into account applicable government requirements (e.g., the CSA/CSA Customs Self-Assessment program).
  • Establishes traffic policies and procedures and ensures that they are standardized and adhered to by the team.

  • Coordinates performance monitoring and ensures compliance of quality, deliveries, and safety standards with major carriers.
  • Collaborates in the development of logistics programs as well as various improvement actions.
  • Supervises the logistics coordinator(s), including performance evaluations.
  • Ensures the establishment and maintenance of a structure to ensure the department's mission at all times (urgent deliveries, transport problems, customs, or others)
  • Performs all other related tasks as requested.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the fields of transportation, traffic, and procurement
  • Bachelor's degree in administration, engineering, or relevant equivalent discipline
  • Demonstrate communication, negotiation, and cost-control skills
  • Has the ability to manage multiple priorities and is comfortable working under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite and knowledge of SAP (Asset).
  • Available and accountable for emergencies.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as with direct reports working remotely.
  • Ability to manage staff.
  • Bilingualism (French-English) is required (spoken and written).
